Certainly even for humans, a large portion of us don't generally think "oh no I'm going to catch the cold from my cat". Bacteria wouldn't be a foreign entity to aliens, but they never had to deal with any kind of bacteria that wasn't unique to their own species.Īn alien species who somehow managed to avoid this may not be thinking of cross contamination. If you assume an alien species develops on a homogeneous world where they never need to domesticate any animals and manage to avoid the problem of overpopulating cities, it's reasonable that they may have never had to deal with plague-like conditions that's scarred humanity to the point where the idea of a human-extinction plague is an unavoidable thought.
